Leftover Paint 2

A few more quick paintings/sketches I’ve done recently using leftover paint from a bigger painting. They are all on A4 canvas paper using leftover acrylic from my palette and palette knives- then after leaving them to dry for a few minutes I’ve done little doodles of sailboats, mountains and seagulls using a black biro. I like the way the mix of different colour paints create the effect of sunlight and sunsets. I’ve recently framed a few of these type of ‘quick paintings’ in white frames and the simplicity of them is actually quite effective. I’ll post a photo soon to see what you think 🙂

One Green Bottle (& other green moments)

I seem to have acquired a few glass bottles again recently (post pregnancy celebratory drinking) and so have put paintbrush and palette knife to glass to create some more DIY single stem vases or just simple decorative pieces for the house. This is a painted champagne bottle which I have put on display on top of my dining room fireplace next to my recently foraged, flea market teapot. The top of the bottle has been painted gold. I’ll post more photos of other painted bottle creations soon! But for now here are a few other experiments with green- which is having a bit of a moment on my palette! My favourite colour seems to shift monthly from yellow to pink to green (and repeat)!

Cardiff Colours

Here is a larger painting I did today of Cardiff Bay using acrylic paint on canvas. The cat walked over it as I was finishing so had to do a few touch ups!!! It’s the first larger painting I’ve managed to do since Macsen was born but I’m hoping to do a few more over the next week. I’ve also re-started framing all my other paintings and prints; the photo of my fire mantlepiece features an A4 sized Cardiff Bay painting I completed a few months ago which I have now framed and found a home for 🙂

DIY Single Stem Vases

Just a little idea that popped into my head recently! I’d been painting on canvas and had some paint left on my palette and some empty glass bottles in my recycling. Conclusion? Paint the bottles. I just used acrylic paint- using a white/red mix as the base coat and then using a palette knife to spread colour and create texture. All finished with gold painted rims and splashes of dark blue. I left them to dry and then varnished them so that the paint would stay put. Voila- DIY single stem vases! Perfect for used wine and champagne bottles. I also painted a little cactus pot with drip effect gold acrylic while I was at it!
